Monday, May 2nd

Noon                           Executive Scholarship Walk            $ 35.00 donation per person

                The walk is sponsored by the Rains Chamber of Commerce to provide educational opportunities to graduates. 
Please join us at the east side of the Rains County Courthouse square at the law office of Ivan Alexander Jr. and walk
to the Rose Community center where a complimentary lunch will be served.  

Friday, May 6th

6:00 – 8:00 pm.          Wildcat Bingo & Class of 2012 Fish Fry                Rains Fairgrounds

            The Rains Athletics Department will entertain you with “Wildcat Bingo” while the graduating class of 2012 will feed you!!! 

Saturday, May 7th

            The Emory Lions Club is fixin’ breakfast! Join us for pancakes, sausage and eggs…

7:00 – 3:00 pm.          Vendor Booths – Rains Chamber               Downtown Emory

            Booth space is available through the Rains County Chamber of Commerce.   $15 for 10’ x 10’ space.  All booths will be outdoors and will be l
ocated on the north side of the Rains County Courthouse.  Vendors will need to bring their own tables, chairs, backdrops, etc.

            Begins at 8 am.  Swap Meet, Buy-Sell-Trade anything RC, Open Flying all Day, Combat Flying, Aerobatic

8:00 am.                      5K Walk – “Bling on the Cure”                   Courthouse

            Deann Dickens and Team “Bling on the Cure” will be hosting this walk / run to raise money for the Susan B. Komen 3 Day
Cure coming up in Dallas on November 4th.  Registration is $25, if received before April 29th you will receive a free t-shirt!
There will also be a 1 mile route available!

9:00 am.                      Motorcycle Benefit Ride                              Courthouse

            The Lake Fork Mavericks MC is hosting a benefit ride, sponsored by S & S Cycle and Big D’s BBQ, for Maria Rabe.
They will leave from the courthouse area around 10 am (some will join the parade!) and expect to return around 2 pm. 
They will have a Bike Show, raffle and bake sale when they get back to the courthouse. Winners will be announced at 3 pm.

9:00 am – 3:00 pm     Forever Ford Car Show                               Downtown Emory

            The participants will meet at the Emory Baptist Church for breakfast before lining up to be in the Parade at 10 am. 
The Forever Ford Car Show will be at the Rains County Courthouse from 10:30 am – 3 pm.

9:00 – 3:00                  Piecemaker Quilt Show                               Courthouse

                The quilt show will be inside the Courthouse! The Founder’s Day Quilt show is a judged quilt show featuring quilts and
quilted items made by members of the Piecemakers Quilt Guild and residents of Rains County.  This year, the quilt show
will be located at the Courthouse on the square.  Quilts will be displayed inside the courthouse building and depending on
weather may also be outside.  Awards will be given for Best of Show, Pride of Rains County, and Viewer’s Choice.  Entries will be
received at the Agri-Life Center (on Highway 276) in Emory on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 3rd and May 4th at 5:00-7:00 pm. 
The Founder’s Day Quilt Show will open at 9:00 am and close at 3:00 pm.  For more information contact Cindy Callentine,

10:00 am.        A. C. McMillian African American Museum          415 S. Texas Street

            The building in Emory has a number of exhibits and artifacts that detail the stories of the Reconstruction era in Texas, as well as
Negro League baseball and Buffalo soldiers. The museum also includes a number of vintage U.S. postage stamps as well as a display
of the Rosenwald Schools in the South. In fact, the museum is now in the midst of a fund-raising campaign to ultimately
preserve and restore a vacated Rosenwald School building in the community.  For more information, call

            The Rains County Founders Day Parade will begin at the Senior Suites Rehab & Nursing Home, go down Hwy 19 towards
downtown, turn right on Quitman Street and right up Alexander Street back towards Hwy 19. Registration forms are available
on-line or at Emory City Hall and can be emailed back or turned in at Emory City Hall.  For more information, call 903-473-2465 x112.

            The Rains County Historical Society is opening the Rains County Historical Park on Hwy 276 for the afternoon! 
Tours will be available from noon – 4 pm. Lemonade and cookies will be served!

1:30 pm.                     “Stroll through History”                              Pocket Garden

            The Emory Park & Recreation Commission will have a booth in the Pocket Garden at the corner Texas Street (Hwy 19) and
Quitman Street from 8 am until 1:30.  They are using this opportunity to increase awareness of our city park and our dreams of expansion!  
At 1:30,  join us for  “A Stroll Through History”.  This leisurely stroll will include local storytellers telling short stories about Emory’s past! 
The stroll will conclude at the Emory Cemetery where we will learn about our City/County namesake, Emory Rains!  Bring the whole
family --- strollers and wagons welcome – it is a perfect way to walk off lunch!!!

Park Activities…..

            Step back in history…. Ride an authentic 1800’s stage coach, pulled by a team of horses, through the park! It is also a great

                Come watch a representative from each of our county’s Volunteer Fire Departments compete to get their LIVE duck to the finish line
first!!! Point VFD will be bringing our traveling trophy to the Derby… let’s see if they go home with it again – they have won 2 years in a row!!!

4:00     Get the Scoop! Homemade Ice Cream Contest                $2 for bowl and spoon

                The Rains 4-H Club is hosting our “Get the Scoop” Homemade Ice Cream Contest… for $2 you can purchase a bowl and spoon,
sample the entries AND vote for the “People’s Choice” winner!
